June 16, 2009: Come to Hunterdon County's Arboretum, enjoy nature, and get some exercise. The Arboretum features numerous gardens filled with a variety of trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials, including both native and non-native species. Each garden has a specific theme, for example: the herb garden, rock garden, cut flower garden, and butterfly garden. The entire garden area is protected by a deer fence to allow for a greater variety of different flowers and trees. Also included within the deer fence is the two level cedar gazebo. Surrounding the gardens are numerous paths and hiking trails. The trails cover 2 miles of flat terrain perfect for a nature walk. The Outer Loop Trail is a total of 1.1 miles. Another great feature of the trails is a boardwalk that goes through a diverse area of wetland plants such as skunk cabbage, cattails, and ferns. If you would like to take advantage of the 2 miles of trails with an educational spin, we provide pamphlets for a Self Guiding tour. These can be picked up within the office, at the entrance of the Arboretum or throughout the trails. Enjoy!
